pink wedding energy – a cosmic glitter cowgirl ceremony for B&E

Beth & Emelia’s incredible day was a flawless study in wearing your heart & soul on the outside for your celebrant wedding ceremony. The wedding was planned meticulously and artistically curated by them, down to the most thoughtful of details. The energy, love and the sheer exuberant joy bouncing off the walls from the brides and their guests was unreal.

I wanted their wedding ceremony to show them some things about the women they are, as well as telling their love story. So, once they’d done rock, paper scissors to decide which sobbing fathers were bringing them down the aisle first, they sat down to face their families and friends, as I had prepared a surprise. Before the wedding ceremony I chatted to every guest, and asked them to write down the one thing they wanted the brides to be for the rest of their lives on specially provided cards. They then held them up to be seen, read and taken in by Beth & Emelia, who absolutely loved it.

And then we were off, galloping through their story, drawing in their guests again with some group commitments, and taking a moment to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and the progress of marriage equality. It was a delight to see them enjoying their ceremony so much, and being so tender and sweet with one another. There was much laughter, as well as a fair few tears, especially when I spoke about their parents’ thoughts on their marriage and the women they have become.

These two really do complete each other. They share everything, not in terms of possessions, but emotionally, it was a beautiful thing to watch them watch each other so carefully and with such bewitched admiration, each feeling the moment along with the other. We talked about the home they have built, the experiences they have shared and hope to share more of, and the fun they have along the way. They committed themselves so wholeheartedly with their personalised vows, alternating between brimming with tears and yelling with laughter. And then they were off, dancing down the aisle and into the huge party, where they had designed and made a colourful country disco themed barndance rave (hard to describe but amazing to see!).

Speaking to their friends and family afterwards was brilliant – everybody had a Beth and Emelia story, everyone was so happy to be there to see them marry. I felt so lucky to be there, watching everybody surround them and want to celebrate them too.

what I loved about this wedding ceremony

  • NGL – I knew the colour scheme beforehand, but I was pretty stoked with my outfit, it couldn’t have matched the pantones more perfectly and made me feel very confident on the day. But nothing was as cool as their glitterball hair accessories!
  • The equilibrium of the day – both families completely united, everybody welcome, everybody happy. The relaxed getting ready, the pride and joy in the aisle walk, the cheerleading from the front two rows. Brilliant
  • The incredible colours and attention to detail in the styling. Beth and Emelia made these incredible fabric streamers for their reception, and there were literally glitterballs everywhere. The dried flower arrangements were like beautiful shouts of firework bangs!
  • Our surprise ring bearer turned out to be a most beloved godmother, which was absolutely perfect and she was so delighted
  • Finishing the ceremony with a handfasting, using what else but gorgeous orange and pink cords carefully chosen by our brides

Nearly six months later, when I think about Beth & Emelia’s ceremony, I remember their closeness, and their complete ease in their love for each other. I think about our night in the pub with their gorgeous dog Poppy, planning it all, and I think about driving away from the party with a big smile, knowing they were about to have an enormous booze up! I’ve got Beth’s mum to thank for being their celebrant, as she found me and suggested me to them, and I couldn’t be more grateful. A 2025 pearl to treasure. I also got to work with the wonderful Becky Weir, whose brilliant wedding photography captured the colour and essence of their day so well.
