Ellen and Kyle were married in January in the softness of the late afternoon twilight, with Bristol’s Historic centre as the backdrop to their incredibly romantic wedding ceremony.

Enveloped by a group of family and close friends, their wedding day was held at The Forge, a gentle, stylish building which retains original industrial features layered with incredibly stylish modern design. For a Bristol twilight wedding ceremony, I don’t think it can be bested as a choice. Its warm brick and polished wooden floors, and stunning views over Old Bristol make you feel like you could be gazing out on a different time in the City’s history, but Ellen and Kyle’s chosen styling, with glorious strong winter floral colours from deep red to lavish umber and orange tones, combined with beautiful candles, brought it right back to contemporary romance.

Ellen and Kyle are the sort of people that you simply want to spend more time with. They both have a knack for making you feel like you are the only person in the room, such is their warmth and openness. So, given the intimacy of their ceremony and their love story, I wanted to return the favour and ensure that in their ceremony, at times, it felt like they were the only people in the room too. Their love story is essentially one of falling deeply for each other and then gradually unfolding each other’s confidence in love and what a strong partnership can do to change your life. They wanted their ceremony to be meaningful and slightly playful, signifying the way they are with each other.
Our ceremony space was denoted by a beautiful floral plinth and candles in hurricane jars, and guests gathered around on wooden chairs whilst Kyle and I waited for Ellen to arrive. We journeyed through their love story, paying particular homage to the lengths they’d had to go to to spend time together in the early years, when they lived many hours apart, and the sense of longing that brought to their romance. Ellen is a very talented but somewhat shy silversmith and jewellery maker, so I surprised her by wearing one of her necklaces to ensure she could see how beautiful we all think her work is. Kyle was raised by his lovely dad, who had wonderful memories of playing boardgames and hobby games with him when he was small, so they had one last unmarried game of Dinosaur Top Trumps together, to decide who went first with their gorgeous vows. Kyle lost, so he went first!

As twilight began to fall in Bristol on the wedding ceremony, Ellen and Kyle’s friends and family made commitments to them to support their marriage and they exchanged their rings. It was pure warmth and joy, such a relaxed and happy moment as they slipped upstairs in the Forge to enjoy some signature cocktails and celebrate with their nearest and dearest.
Before the evening party, they walked round the corner to Bristol’s hidden gem, the Christmas Steps, to have some quiet moments together, and returned to a shower of sparklers, which, to me, typifies their energy and fizzy, joyful love for each other.
