have your wedding ceremony at home

If having every creature that’s important to you is an essential ingredient of your wedding ceremony, then hold it at home, or in your garden. That’s the beauty of a celebrant wedding, we can do that. Your cat can be as present as they would be on any normal day, and you can say your vows with a cat on your lap.

bring cat vibes with some cat vows

One of the best things I’ve ever done as part of a ceremony was to work with an extremely sporting member of Jess and Luke’s bridal party to create a surprise section in their ceremony where they were required to say some vows to their cat. Secretly, I made masks of their lovely cat’s face (which also came in handy at the party later) and Rosie stood up to face them, wearing the mask, and to receive their vows to always keep the cat in Dreamies, and to let her continue to rule their house with her usual iron paw. When a creature is that much part of your household, they deserve a big part in your big day. Nobody could say no.

advice on marriage from cats

As the author Terry Pratchett observed, “In ancient times, cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this”.

This renders them absolutely delighted to give relationship advice. They have often seen their owners through many a tough time, and were there when your relationship first blossomed. They may have reassembled their own relationship with one of you to include the new person when you moved in together. They know you. So, find me a friend who can ‘speak for them’, and perhaps we could take a moment to look at your love story from their perspective during your ceremony?

wedding readings about cats

Well, I’ve read the internet and I can’t really find anything that is wedding specific (as per this blog post, cats don’t go to many weddings). Yeats’ ‘The Cat and the Moon’ comes pretty close, it’s about a cat, besotted with the moon – something he loves but doesn’t know entirely, yet.

There’s also ‘the language of cat’ by Rachel Rooney – which is essentially, about the glory of a cat’s confidence in itself, which might ring true for some to-be-weds looking to love themselves too.

Cat, by Ted Hughes, is a brilliant affirmation of why cats are awesome, and might be excellent for a cat loving couple looking to affirm the peace their pet brings to their life.
